Crock Pot Chicken Noodle Soup - Cut Chicken OK?

I'm planning on cooking up some homemade chicken noodle soup in the crock pot, but want to use bits of chicken . All of the recipes I've come across call for fryer/broiler chicken. Would it make a difference if I cut my chicken up and slow cooked it that way instead of cooking a whole chicken? Also, would using pre-cut pieces instead of a whole cause my cooking time to change? This is my first attempt at chicken noodle soup so I'm hoping not to mess it up, any pointers or advice would be great!
