Why is everyone calling it "socialism" all the sudden?

It's not like before Obama came into office there wasn't medicare, medicaid, social security, affirmative action, welfare, food stamps, federal bailouts of companies, federal stimulus packages, etc. etc.etc. I don't really see anything new besides adding government funded healthcare for those who can't afford it. So why does that suddenly make it "socialism" when it wasn't before?
