I need feedback on gastric byp (bariatric) surgery from those who have personal knowledge. Thanks?

My physician has extolled it's virtues but I am afraid I won't follow the diet involved. I am a cook and have a 20+ year habit of tasting while cooking. Honestly I don't know if I have the willpower required. I was told that can be a real no-no due to the dietary restrictions and I would like to hear from those who have firsthand knowledge about their ability/inability to follow guidelines while I am trying to decide if bariatric surgery is for me. Please answer seriously and truthfully; thank you.
